Charlie Davenport creates leather art that is built on his traditional art background as well as his interest in wildlife and the Victorian and Nouveau styles of the early American 1900’s. He started working with leather in 2003 as a Manger Trainee in Oklahoma City thanks to KC Kreger and has since learned from Master Craftsmen such as Tony Laier, Jim Linnell, and George Hurst. His leather art has been featured in many publications including the cover art for The Leathercrafters and Saddlers Journal and numerous Tandy Leather Factory Catalogs. In addition, Charlie’s carvings are in numerous private collections around the world. He has taught classes to all ages throughout the United States, Canada, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Spain, Turkey, Australia, Argentina, and the United Kingdom. In his work, Charlie often uses contemporary ideas combined with traditional techniques to produce unique leather art. After 15 years with Tandy Leather Factory, Charlie now works from home in Yukon, Oklahoma with his family. He continues to explore new ways to utilize leather and share with other leather artisans.
